Everton’s highly-rated youngster Ross Barkley is reportedly set to join Wednesday on loan. The 18-year-old midfielder is said to be ready to move to Hillsborough to give him first team experience in the Championship. Barkley made his mark for England in this summer’s under-19 European Championships and has made a handful of appearances for Everton.
Wednesday have landed young Preston winger Danny Mayor for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Deepdale and has signed a three-year deal at Hillsborough. Apart from long-term injury victim Chris Lines, Dave Jones will have a full-strength Wednesday squad to choose from for Monday’s competitive opener at Oldham.
