Antonio hits injury time winner as Owls keep up promotion bid

Michail Antonio sent Hillsborough wild and kept up Wednesday’s hopes of automatic promotion with an injury time winner at home to Carlisle on Saturday.

With Sheff U losing at MK Dons, we looked to have thrown away a great opportunity to close the gap on our rivals, before Antonio cut in from the left at the Kop end and fired into the far corner with just one minute of the six added minutes remaining.

Chris Lines had put Wednesday ahead on 24 minutes, stabbing home from close range after Jermaine Johnson’s fierce drive was parried by keeper Adam Collin.

We dominated procedeings but a combination of good goalkeeping and weak finishing saw us struggling to seal the points. And, with eight minutes remaining Carlisle, who had rarely threatened, hit an equaliser when James Berrett drove home from 20 yards.

Then, just as it seemed that we would have to settle for a point, Antonio cut into the box and fired his dramatic winner. And with Sheff U losing at MK, we go into next Saturday’s game at Brentford just one point behind our rivals with two games to play.
