Another clean sheet as Owls take point

Wednesday recorded a fourth consecutive Championship clean sheet in a goalless draw at Millwall on Tuesday night after a match where entertaining football was at a minimum.

There was little to enthuse fans of either side in the first half and we looked well short of energy, commitment and creativity, allowing one of the division’s strugglers to gain the momentum from early on.

However, Millwall caused few major concerns, the biggest threat coming from Jed Wallace’s free kick which Kieren Westwood pushed away.

Thankfully, we came out for the second half showing far more urgency and cohesion, with Barry Bannan having a greater influence on the game as he switched into the middle of midfield.

Lucas Joao tested home keeper Jordan Archer early in the second period while Millwall saw a header from ex-Owl loanee Ben Marshall cleared off the line by Jordan Thorniley.

Steve Morison fired high and wide when he broke clear 10 minutes from time and then Steven Fletcher was off-target on the final whistle to signal a second successive stalemate for the Owls.

The draw lifts us one place, into 15th spot, on 40 points.

Westwood, Palmer, Hector, Thorniley, Fox, Reach, Hutchinson, Pelupessy (Boyd 46), Bannan, Joao (Forestieri 77), Fletcher. Att: 11,828 (1177 Wednesdayites).
