Agnew: Good to see us creating chances

Steve Agnew was pleased to see Wednesday creating plenty of chances – despite just the one goal – in the victory over Wigan.

The after-match stats showed we had 21 shots, with eight of them on target, and caretaker boss Agnew said: “The time to be concerned is when we don’t create anything in front of goal but we did that today.

“Of course, you want to score as many goals as possible but in some games it only takes the one goal and we got that today.

“We stressed to the players before the game to play on the front foot and make things happen in the final third.

“We went a little bit long up to Fletch in the first half but played it better in the second half and made some good chances.”

He added: “I’m really pleased with the result, it was three points that we needed and on the balance of play we deserved to win by more than one goal.

“I said at half-time that I thought we were the better team without having had too much of a threat on goal but then we upped our game a touch.

“We pressed high, we worked them. I can’t remember too many times that Keiren Westwood had much to do.”

Wigan boss, Paul Cook, said: “At half-time I was thinking there was something there for us, but in the second half Sheffield Wednesday totally dominated the game and fully deserved the victory.”
