Three-goal Boro end our FA Cup hopes

Wednesday’s hopes of an FA Cup run ended at the first hurdle in a 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Carlos Carvalhal fielded a strong side but three second-half goals saw the home team through.

Grant Leadbitter fired the Premier League side ahead with a 25-yard free kick on 58 minutes but, within a minute, Boro were reduced to 10 men when Daniel Ayala was shown a straight red card for bringing down Fernando Forestieri.

However, we failed to take advantage of the extra man and Boro made it 2-0 when Joe Wildsmith’s poor clearance was deflected into the net by Alvaro Negredo 10 minutes later.

Then Boro made certain of their place in the fourth round draw when Marten de Roon fired home in injury time.

Attendance: 23,661 (3283 Wednesdayites)
